The City of Medicine Hat is committed to providing environmental leadership and working with the community on its environmental priorities by supporting environmental projects.
A total annual grant budget of $50,000 is available from the City to individuals and organizations for environmental projects that help to achieve the targets established in the 2008 Community Environmental Roadmap.

Deadlines for application submissions are November 1 and May 1.
Applications will be reviewed by the Urban Environment and Recreation Advisory Board (UERAB) - a volunteer Board appointed by City Council to advise on parks, urban environment and recreation. UERAB makes recommendations for grants to City Council for final approval.
PROJECT CRITERIA:
Environmental projects must help achieve the environmental targets established in the 2008 Community Environmental Roadmap. Applicants should make themselves familiar with the Community Environment Roadmap and its seven environmental priorities:
Land / Surface
• Community perception that the City manages growth through wise residential and commercial planning
• A physically attractive, clean community
Renewable Energy
• Percentage of residential energy from renewable sources
Energy Conservation
• Per capita residential natural gas and electricity consumption
Water Conservation
• Residential water consumption per household per year
Water Quality
• Local water quality testing based on provincial water, waste water and storm water guidelines
• Perceived quality of drinking water
Waste and Recycling
• Residential waste to landfill
Air Quality
• Air Quality Health Index
