Renewable Energy

What is it?
Renewable energy utilizes resources that can be replenished from and through our environment. Examples of these resources are hydro, wind and solar power, biomass, and other emerging technologies. They provide an opportunity for the City to reduce its dependence on natural gas for energy as well as to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

While renewable energy sources usually offer environmental benefits, they also create environmental impacts that must be considered. In addition, they usually cost more than fossil fuel based energy sources, although these costs are becoming lower with ongoing commercial development.
