The City of Medicine Hat is pleased to offer HAT Smart New Home incentives for new homes constructed in Medicine Hat. The New Home incentive program consists of three components - an EnerGuide incentive that is focused on the energy efficiency of your new home a BuiltGreen (or equivalent) incentive that rewards broader sustainable building practices; and Renewable Energy incentives to encourage investment in residential solar energy systems.

- Combine it with the Alberta EnerGuide Rebate for additional savings
EnerGuide Incentives*
Medicine Hat residents who take possession of a new EnerGuide labeled single-family or multi-family row home (excluding stacked multi-family construction) on or after February 16, 2010 are eligible for one of the following incentives:
- $1,000 for new homes that meet or exceed EnerGuide 78;
- $1,500 for new homes that meet or exceed EnerGuide 80;
- $3,000 for new homes that meet or exceed EnerGuide 82; or
- $10,000 for new homes that meet or exceed EnerGuide 86.
* - HAT Smart New Home (EnerGuide) incentives cannot be combined with the HAT Smart Renewable Energy incentives.
BuiltGreen Incentives*
Medicine Hat residents who take possession of a new BuiltGreen (or equivalent) certified single-family or multi-family row home (excluding stacked multi-family construction) on or after February 16, 2010 are eligible for one of the following incentives (in addition to the EnerGuide Incentives above):
- $1,000 for new homes that are certified BuiltGreen Gold (or equivalent);
- $2,000 for new homes that are certified BuiltGreen Platinum (or equivalent);
* - HAT Smart Built Green incentives cannot be combined with the HAT Smart Renewable Energy incentives.
Renewable Energy Incentives*
Medicine Hat utility customers who install a renewable energy system on their new single-family or multi-family row home (excluding stacked multi-family construction) on or after July, 2008 are eligible for the following incentives:
- up to $3,000 for Solar Hot Water system;
- up to $6,000 for Solar Electric system
* - HAT Smart Renewable Energy incentives cannot be combined with the HAT Smart EnerGuide incentives or the HAT Smart BuiltGreen incentives.
How Can You Cash In?
Step 1: Talk to Your Builder - Ask your builder about EnerGuide, Built Green or Renewable Energy incentives or consult with a Certified Energy Advisor to assess your EnerGuide rating. Decide which incentive works best for you.
Step 2: Get Ready to Apply - reserve funds with the New Home Rebate Funding Reservation Form.
HAT Smart EnerGuide Incentive: acquire EnerGuide label, report, and file number from your builder or energy advisor. Homes rated 78 or higher qualify.
HAT Smart Built Green Incentive: acquire your Built Green label (your builder must be Built Green certified).
HAT Smart Renewable Energy: apply for this rebate only if you are not applying for other HAT Smart incentives.
Step 3: Apply for Your Rebate - Once you have taken possession and have the necessary papers, you may apply for your incentives.
- HAT Smart EnerGuide Incentives application (local and provincial EnerGuide rebates are handled by the same office, so you only need to apply once). Allow at least eight weeks for processing.
