Photovoltaic (PV), or solar electric systems, are used to convert the sun's energy into electricity. There are no moving parts in photovoltaic modules and little maintenance is required. Solar electric systems are modular, allowing you to start with a small system. As your power requirements grow, you can add more modules.
Available Rebates:
- HAT Smart Rebate - up to $6,000 (50% of installed costs)
- Government of Alberta - no rebates at this time
- Government of Canada - no rebates at this time
To qualify for a HAT Smart Rebate and other Government offered Rebates:
- Attend a Energy Conservation Seminar at City Hall and receive a $100 HAT Smart discount on a residential energy assessment.
- Install a Solar Electric system that meets the City’s qualification standards
- Minimum system size is 900 watts
- Complete any other qualifying home energy retrofits

- Solar Self Assessment – understand if your proposed location might be suitable
- Contact a Solar Installer for a quote – determine cost for an installed system. Understand your projected annual savings.
- Confirm Availability of Rebate – complete HAT Smart rebate confirmation request.
- Review the Interconnection Guidelines and electric permit required.
- Complete Installation and then apply for the Renewable Electricity Rebate.
