What is it?
The amount of solid waste we generate includes wastes disposed in landfills plus wastes diverted for recycling and reuse. The benefits of reducing waste include conserving natural resources and energy. Solid waste can pollute land, air and water. Reducing waste extends the life of a landfill.
What Can You Do?
Citizens can assist in the effort of waste minimization and recycling.
- Practice the 4R’s:
- Reduce – the amount of unnecessary packaging
- Reuse – bags, containers and other items. Consider reusable products
- Recycle – choose recyclable products and containers and recycle them
- Respond – choose good from the EcoLogo certified products listing
- Apply today for a Community Environmental Grant supporting Waste and Recycling initiatives
